Guided mode characteristics in uniaxial anisotropic metamaterial slab waveguide: The guiding conditions of uniaxial anisotropic metamaterial slab waveguide with different signs for each component in the permittivity tensor and the permeability tensor are derived. According to the positive and negative combinations of the component signs, the even-mode characteristics of the guided TE wave are discussed in different cases, and the Brillouin diagrams for the real transverse wavenumber in the slab waveguide are drawn. The results show that under certain conditions, there are infinite guided modes in this slab waveguide, which is very different from the traditional dielectric waveguide and isotropic metamaterial slab where only a finite number of modes exist. In addition, it is found that when the component parameters meet certain conditions, multiple transmission mode solutions with imaginary transverse wavenumbers appear, and the mode has a high-frequency cutoff.
