Polymer PTC thermistor isolation transformer line protection isolation transformer is widely used in various low-voltage circuits to provide power for low-voltage equipment. When there are abnormal conditions such as overload and load short circuit, the transformer will be damaged due to excessive current, or even catch fire. This cannot meet the requirements of the relevant standards for isolation transformers, such as IEC742 or EN60742, which stipulates that the temperature of the isolation transformer cannot exceed 125oC when the secondary winding of the isolation transformer is short-circuited, and UL1310 and UL1585 stipulate that the current must be limited to less than 8A within 5 seconds. If a suitable polymer PTC thermistor of our company is connected in series in the secondary coil of the transformer, it can be easily met. Compared with some ceramic PTC thermistors, our polymer PTC thermistors have the advantages of low impedance and low temperature after protection. The usual protection circuit is shown in the figure. In order to prevent the induced voltage generated at both ends of the coil from damaging the circuit when the PTC thermistor is activated, it is recommended to add a varistor to the secondary coil.
