For years, there has been a proliferation of standards, and we in the electronics industry are particularly plagued by it. Have you ever wondered why we have standards for things that have some weird number or gauge? There was a heated discussion about whether the diameter of the Space Shuttle\'s solid rocket boosters was really derived from the width of a horse\'s butt. 2 It\'s pretty bizarre and interesting. However, it\'s more productive to accept that there will always be a lot of standards, and we have to find ways to make them play nicely. Engineers and manufacturers alike are involved in one common area where incompatible standards are particularly troublesome: prototyping platforms. Fortunately, there are ways to mitigate these incompatibilities. We\'ll discuss this further in this document.
