The HART protocol and its application in field instruments are discussed, the development and working principle of the handheld terminal are introduced, the hardware structure, principle and software functions of the electromagnetic flowmeter handheld terminal designed based on the HART protocol are described, and it has been successfully applied in practice. Due to the limitation of the installation location, it has become a major trend in the application of electromagnetic flowmeters to use a handheld terminal to read the various parameters in the instrument to judge the operating conditions during debugging. Fieldbus technology is one of the hot spots in the current automatic detection technology and process control field. Through fieldbus, digital communication technology is bringing great changes to field instruments and process control systems. However, at present, analog devices based on 4~20mA are still widely used in various fields of industrial control, and it is not realistic to achieve full digitalization. In order to achieve the transition from analog to full digital, Rosemount Corporation of the United States launched a communication protocol for field intelligent instruments and control equipment in 1985-HART protocol. The HART protocol is compatible with analog current signals and digital communication signals, and can perform both analog signal transmission and digital communication. As an open protocol, after more than ten years of development, the HART protocol has been widely accepted in the field of intelligent instruments. The most widely used application of HART communication is the communication between field intelligent instruments and handheld terminals. However, handheld terminals are not suitable for operators to do routine monitoring, nor can they realize the automatic control process of user-programmed programs. In view of this situation, this paper designs an electromagnetic flowmeter hand operator that is easy to operate, can meet the special requirements of users, and complies with the HART communication standard, and has been implemented in field tests.
