Efficient routing and forwarding is a key point in the routing design of wireless sensor networks. Based on the existing cluster-based hierarchical routing mechanism, this paper proposes a routing and forwarding mode based on the minimum hop count. The core of this mode is to use the minimum hop count routing algorithm in the established cluster. The algorithm is simple and easy to expand. As long as the nodes in the cluster remember the set of forwarding nodes within their own one-hop range, they can send data to the cluster head along the shortest path. Simulation results show that this mode has a good energy-saving effect and prolongs the network life. Keywords: wireless sensor network; routing algorithm; minimum hop count; cluster
