A broadband dual-polarized microstrip antenna based on a photonic bandgap (PBG) high-resistance surface is designed. The PBG high-resistance surface floor is applied to the designed slot-coupled microstrip antenna, and a broadband dual-polarized antenna unit with a C-band impedance bandwidth of 22% (VSWR2) is realized. The simulation results show that compared with the case of adding a metal floor, the designed PBG high-resistance surface improves the impedance bandwidth, gain, port isolation and cross-polarization of the antenna while reducing the profile. The port isolation can be improved by about 8 dB at most, and the axial cross-polarization can be improved by about 4 dB.
