Aiming at the problem of path guidance in intelligent transportation system, three classification methods are proposed, namely, whether the goal of the guidance system is system path or single-vehicle path, whether the information nature is static or dynamic, and whether the path generation method is decentralized or centralized. The three key issues in the study of path guidance system, namely, real-time performance of path guidance algorithm, dynamic path guidance and integrated integration of traffic control and guidance, are discussed in detail, and their latest research progress is analyzed. Combining the analysis results with the practical application prospects of path guidance system, important research directions for further studying path guidance algorithm in the future are given, such as traveler psychological characteristic model, multi-objective optimization, road section traffic volume prediction, providing more intelligent services and distributed artificial intelligence framework model.
