The single-stage self-oscillating high power factor (HPF) electronic ballast proposed in this paper is suitable for small power level and low voltage AC power supply applications because it operates in discontinuous conduction (DCM) mode and adopts a voltage doubler input rectifier. In order to reduce the number of components of the electronic ballast, the self-oscillation technology is adopted, and the trial production sample of the ballast running at 25kHz has been completed. Two 40W linear fluorescent lamps can be driven by a low-voltage power line. Even with only one fluorescent lamp, a high power factor can be obtained. The test results confirm that the working performance of the electronic ballast is good.
