TI\'s DSP solutions for handheld ultrasound systems weigh about 10 pounds or less and can operate without batteries. Handheld ultrasound systems are widely used in ICU wards, emergency rooms, anesthesia and battlefields. Handheld ultrasound systems use DSPs and SoCs to process digitized electrical signals produced by electrical sensors (such as cameras, transducers, microphones, etc.). A diagnostic ultrasound imaging system generates and transmits ultrasound waves, captures reflected waves and converts them into visible images. The signal processing of the received reflected waves includes interpolation, extraction, data filtering and reconstruction. The programmable DSP and SoC can perform these complex mathematical operations in real time.
