A brief discussion on the implementation of RFID EDGE SERVER (middleware) Introduction In terms of RFID standard formulation and promotion, EPCglobal, as a non-profit organization established by the industry, is jointly invested by the International Article Numbering Association (EAN) and the Uniform Code Council (UCC) of the United States. It is mainly responsible for the globalization of EPC network standards to quickly, automatically and accurately identify goods circulating in the supply chain. At present, the organization occupies a leading position in standard formulation and promotion compared with other RFID standard organizations. In order to accelerate the development and application of RFID technology, EPCglobal has led the formulation of many standards involving all aspects of RFID software and hardware. Regarding RFID middleware, EPCglobal launched the ALE (Application Level Event) specification in September 2005 to standardize its technical implementation. RFID application framework [pic] Figure 1 RFID application framework Figure 1 describes the various links of the coordination of RFID software and hardware facilities in the Internet of Things environment and the corresponding standards or specifications formulated by EPCglobal. It can be seen that from the manufacturing of RFID tags to the capture of their information by RFID readers, the RFID middleware filters and aggregates the events, and then the EPCIS application software enriches the business content of the RFID events and saves them to the EPCIS storage system for access by the enterprise itself and its partners. In each link in the middle, EPCglobal has issued relevant standards and specifications. · Between RFID tags and RFID readers, the EPC tag data specification and tag protocol are defined. · Between RFID readers and RFID middleware, the reader access protocol and management interface are defined. · Between RFID middleware and EPCIS capture applications, the RFID event filtering and collection interface (ALE) is defined. · Between EPCIS capture applications and EPCIS storage systems, the EPCIS information capture interface is defined. · Between EPCIS storage systems and EPCIS information access systems, the EPCIS information query interface is defined. · Other specifications and interfaces for cross-enterprise information interaction, such as ONS...
