Electromagnetic Interference Filter Controls EMC Electromagnetic Interference Filter Controls EMC Electromagnetic interference filter (EMIFilter) is a new type of combined device that has been promoted and applied in recent years. It can effectively suppress power grid noise, improve the anti-interference ability of electronic equipment and the reliability of the system. It can be widely used in electronic measuring instruments, computer room equipment, switching power supplies, measurement and control systems and other fields. The function of electromagnetic interference filter is to prevent electromagnetic interference current from being transmitted on the wire. In engineering, the use of interference filters is to solve four forms of problems: 1 The mutual interference problem between circuits is caused by the interference from one circuit to another through the wire. The use of filters cuts off this transmission path and solves the problem of mutual interference between circuits. 2 The conducted emission or immunity of the equipment does not meet the requirements. Install filters on the cables that cause problems to meet the requirements. 3 The circuit or equipment needs to be shielded or isolated. The wires (cables) passing through the shielding body (isolator) cause electromagnetic energy leakage. Install filters on the wires passing through the shielding body (isolator) to maintain the integrity of the shielding body (isolator). 4 The circuit or equipment is sensitive to radiated interference or produces excessive radiation due to the external cable (equivalent to the antenna). Install filters at the interface between the cable and the circuit (or equipment). Among the above four types of problems, the first two are very familiar to people and are generally considered consciously in the design. However, the problems and applications of the latter two types are generally ignored. This is actually a major cause of electromagnetic interference problems. When designing new products or solving electromagnetic compatibility problems in products, you must remember two points: 1) Shielding is only complete after filtering. Unless there are no wires passing through the shielding body, all wires passing through the shielding body must be considered filtered or shielded. When shielding the wires (using shielded cables), be sure to pay attention to the termination of the shielding layer. 2) Cables are efficient antennas that receive and radiate electromagnetic interference. When these cables are not shielded cables, filtering issues must be considered to avoid electromagnetic compatibility problems. Familiarity with the frequency domain oscilloscope is an indispensable instrument for debugging circuits. The oscilloscope can be used to observe the waveforms of voltage and current changing over time. However, oscilloscopes have great limitations for analyzing electromagnetic compatibility issues.
