What is TIA’s expanded 5G optical connectivity portfolio? What does it do? MACOM’s MATA-03003/3006 TIA solution with integrated PIN and APD is ideal for next-generation 5G wireless, enterprise and storage networks
Gen 2 TIA features low power, high sensitivity/overload and optical component flexibility to reduce system cost
MACOM will showcase TIA solutions at OFC 2018 at booth #2613
Lowell, MA, March 12, 2018 – MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. (“MACOM”) today announced the availability of sampling and pre-production samples of new 28Gbps transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), including the MATA-03003 and MATA-03006 . This high-performance TIA solution supports data rates from 8.5 Gbps to 28 Gbps for 25G CPRI, 25G Ethernet and 32G Fiber Channel applications while delivering low power, high sensitivity/overload, reduced die size and Brings flexibility to optical assemblies (OSA) for SFP28 optical modules.
Driven by 5G connections, the demand for data traffic in wireless access, enterprise networks and cloud data center applications is growing rapidly. Optical module customers continue to explore solutions that offer lower power consumption, smaller size and lower cost. MACOM's new TIA devices reduce power consumption by 20% while offering higher sensitivity and stronger overload performance, making TIAs more cost-effective and ideal for high-density optical connectivity solutions. MACOM’s new TIA solution reduces the need for external components, streamlining sealed TO socket or chip-on-board (COB) components.
"MACOM's new TIA expands our 28G TIA product portfolio and takes a leading position in the rapidly evolving market driven by next-generation 5G network architecture," said Angus Lai, director of marketing for high-performance analog products at MACOM. “Our latest TIA series is equipped with PIN and APD diodes for excellent optical sensitivity and overload performance. In addition, paired with our highly integrated 28G VCSEL and DML laser drivers for ultra-low power consumption, it is a best-in-class 28G module solution. plan."
MACOM’s MATA-03003 family of devices provides die layout flexibility for optical components that can be assembled into a variety of TO sockets with PIN detectors for short range (SR) and long range (LR) applications; and MATA-03006 can be equipped with high-performance APD for wider coverage (ER) applications. The new TIA device supports selectable low-rate mode operation through the RSSI control pin of the 28G VCSEL and DML laser driver with integrated CDR (MASC-37028/MALD-37030), which improves receiver performance at low data rates. sensitivity and backward compatible with traditional 10G optical modules.
MATA-03003/3006 is only available to customers in bare die form. Prenatal samples are now available, and the product is expected to be officially released in the first half of 2018.
MACOM will showcase its complete portfolio of 5G optical connectivity solutions at OFC 2018, March 13-15 in San Diego, California, booth #2613.
