L296 has complete over-voltage, over-current, over-heat protection and soft-start functions. It is equipped with a reset circuit output terminal, a prohibited input terminal, a crowbar input terminal, and an output terminal. The input voltage range is wide, and the input voltage can be between 9 and 46 V as needed. Determined within; the maximum output current is 4A, the maximum output power is 160W, and the output voltage can be continuously adjusted within the range of 5.1~40V. Its package form is Multiwatt15, and the pin arrangement is shown in Figure 2.

The following is a circuit diagram of a 4A DC adjustable regulated power supply with an output of 5.1~40V. Since there is no reset output, pins 12, 13, and 14 are left floating. The overvoltage protection is not used, so pin 15 is left floating and pin 1 is grounded. You can see the circuit. Very simple and easy to make.
