Motor controller structure [Copy link]

As an experienced electronic engineer, you may already know the basic structure and composition of motor controllers. The following are the common structural components of motor controllers:

  1. Control chip (MCU or DSP) :

    • The control chip is the core component of the motor controller, responsible for executing the control algorithm and generating control signals. Common control chips include microcontrollers (MCUs) and digital signal processors (DSPs), which have high-performance computing capabilities and rich peripheral interfaces to meet different motor control requirements.
  2. Power module (motor driver) :

    • The power module is a component used to control the current and voltage of the motor. It is responsible for converting the control signal output by the control chip into the power signal required by the motor. Common power modules include power amplifiers, MOSFETs, IGBTs, etc. They can provide high current and high voltage outputs to meet the control requirements of different types of motors.
  3. sensor :

    • Sensors are used to monitor the motor's operating status and environmental parameters, and provide feedback to the control chip for real-time adjustment and control. Common sensors include position sensors (such as encoders, Hall sensors), speed sensors, current sensors, temperature sensors, etc., which can provide information such as the motor's position, speed, current, and temperature.
  4. Power module :

    • The power module is used to provide stable power supply for the motor controller and motor driver. Usually DC power supply is adopted. The power module can stabilize and filter the input voltage to ensure the stability and reliability of the system.
  5. protect the circuit :

    • Protection circuits are used to protect motor controllers and motor drivers from damage caused by abnormal conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage, overload, etc. Common protection circuits include overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, overtemperature protection, etc. They can cut off the power supply or reduce the output power in time to protect the safety and stable operation of the system.
  6. Communication Interface :

    • The communication interface is used for data communication and control with external devices. Common communication interfaces include serial ports (UART), SPI, I2C, CAN, etc., which can realize data exchange and communication between the motor controller and the host computer, other devices or systems.

To summarize, a motor controller is usually composed of a control chip, a power module, a sensor, a power module, a protection circuit, and a communication interface. These components work together to achieve precise control and stable operation of the motor.
