Tektronix, a leading global provider of test, measurement and monitoring instruments, recently announced the launch of the new DPO70000 digital phosphor oscilloscope and DSA70000 digital serial analyzer products, which will greatly broaden the uncompromising real-time DPO performance platform currently provided by the DPO7000 series. This new product series includes key high-end features that are only available on the TDS6000C series, the world's fastest multi-channel real-time oscilloscope. These new bandwidth instruments with 4GHz, 6GHz and 8GHz provide the industry's best hardware and software platform for data capture, debugging, verification and compliance testing, thus providing an ideal test platform for engineers engaged in high-speed design. The DPO70000 series provides a wider range of functions and performance support for engineers engaged in high-speed digital design in multiple industries such as high-performance computers, servers, and consumer electronics, allowing them to complete debugging and verification more efficiently and confidently. The DSA70000 series is optimized for the needs of serial data design work, providing an ideal test platform that widely supports high-speed standards such as PCI-Express, XAUI, FB-DIMM, and SATA . The design of communication systems and computer buses in the electronics industry is increasingly dependent on industry standards. When designing high-speed serial data and high-speed digital applications such as ASICs, SerDes, memory, motherboards, plug-in cards, computer peripherals, communications and consumer electronics, design engineers need to be able to verify signal integrity and simultaneously observe the signal response of multiple matching channels to quickly discover and capture intermittent errors or events in complex signal architectures (usually multi-channel signal architectures). In serial data debugging, it is often necessary to monitor serial data protocol errors and trace back to the analog electrical characteristics that cause the problem, so the test instrument is required to have the following capabilities: capture, view and analyze signal behavior and relationships at both the physical layer and the data layer. "Designers are facing an increasing number of more complex serial data standards and the challenging signal integrity issues they bring," said Colin Shepard, vice president of Tektronix's performance oscilloscope product line. "The new analyzer provides very accurate timing jitter measurements, high-speed serial triggering, and protocol decoding and compliance testing for serial data standards based on the outstanding hardware performance of the DSA70000. The DSA70000 perfectly combines the most comprehensive serial data debug and analysis capabilities with the industry's most advanced oscilloscope hardware platform." "High-speed serial data standards such as PCI-Express were once considered the newest technologies, but are now widely adopted by the industry," said Mark Marlett, chief design engineer at LSI Logic. "The new Tektronix DSA70000 Digital Serial Analyzer provides an ideal performance engine for engineers who need to debug and characterize high-speed serial data buses." Industry-leading real-time performance The DPO70000 and DSA70000 are based on a new generation of hardware platforms that eliminate the compromises that are common with high performance oscilloscopes between sample rate, record length, and waveform capture rate. The new 4 GHz DPO70404, 6 GHz DPO70604, and 8 GHz DPO70804 models provide the bandwidth and performance to meet the needs of a wide range of high-speed digital design applications. The 4 GHz DSA70404, 6 GHz DSA70604, and 8 GHz DSA70804 models are ideal for the first generation of high-speed multi-channel and multi-layer serial bus applications. For example, the 8 GHz DSA70804 model can capture the fifth harmonic of the highest system clock frequency in the first generation of high-speed serial standards testing, which is very helpful for compliance testing of buses up to 3.125 Gb/s such as PCI-Express, SATA, and XAUI. With 25 GS/S sampling rate on 4 channels simultaneously, any of the new oscilloscope models has the highest sampling rate performance on all four channels. User-selectable DSP ensures matching between channels and between oscilloscopes, ensuring consistent results for multi-channel measurements. The DPO70804 and DSA70804 have typical rise times of up to 35 ps and will provide a typical noise floor of less than 400 fs rms for critical jitter testing, which is the lowest in the industry under comparable bandwidth conditions. Each standard configuration DPO70000 is equipped with 10M memory per channel, while the standard configuration DSA70000 provides 20M memory per channel. Both series support 100M storage capacity per channel to ensure that multiple channels can be captured and analyzed at high data rates with the best time resolution in long time windows. This means that when performing full-speed real-time data acquisition with a single sample interval of 40 ps, the maximum time window can reach 4 ms, which ensures that good resolution can be obtained when working at the highest performance. All models include a 12.1-inch XGA display enabling engineers to see more information at once. With the 4th generation DPX? signal imaging system that can capture 250,000 waveform images per second, all new models provide the fastest waveform capture performance at high sampling rates. Therefore, compared with similar oscilloscopes and serial data analyzers, Tektronix's new instruments enable designers to capture, view and measure dynamic signal information in real time faster, more conveniently and more accurately. With variable graded color scales that can be maintained for a period of time until all abnormal signals are visible to the naked eye, the new models will improve user productivity by quickly capturing fleeting signals and abnormal events to improve accuracy and accelerate the debugging process. The new models also include the award-winning MyScopeTM user interface, which greatly simplifies applications. The MyScope function ensures that users can quickly and easily set up the oscilloscope to meet their specific requirements. DSA70000 provides a complete toolset for high-speed serial applications Engineers working on high-speed serial data buses and interfaces need to face design specification consistency issues in debugging and verifying the physical layer and data layer. The DSA70000 provided by Tektronix is based on the most common requirements of engineers in standard verification and functional inspection. It is the best analysis tool for multi-layer debugging and verification of single-channel or multi-channel high-speed serial signals. The DSA70000 series instruments include industry-leading serial compliance testing, jitter testing, and timing analysis tools, and provide unique patented software clock recovery, RT-Eye? serial compliance and analysis software, and full testing capabilities for specific standard parameters, including amplitude, timing, and jitter domains, including the industry-recognized 10-12 bit error rate (BER) Total Jitter measurement method. Users can add functional options to provide more test information, Pass/Fail waveform templates, and perform extreme condition testing in accordance with industry or association standards. At the same time, software functional options can support PCI-Express, FB-DIMM, SATA, SAS, HDMI, and more technical standards. In addition, the analysis software provides jitter measurements for the key timing parameters required for most high-speed serial data standard tests, while allowing the DSA70000 to have the highest accuracy and lowest jitter noise measurements unmatched by any other real-time oscilloscope under comparable bandwidth conditions. All models include the unique Pinpoint? trigger system, the only system in the world that can achieve complete A/B triggering, which can quickly discover and capture intermittent errors or abnormal events in complex signal architectures. In addition to the more than 1,400 trigger combinations provided by Pinpoint, the DSA70000 series provides built-in serial pattern triggering up to 3.125 Gb/s, as well as 8b/10b protocol triggering and decoding, which helps designers trigger on four consecutive 10b symbols or predefined errors. This means that the following data can be triggered in real time without post-processing, which allows designers to truly trigger an error instead of just hoping to find an error in repeated checks. "The new real-time DSA70000 models combine high-end serial data analysis with a state-of-the-art, high-performance, scalable hardware platform," said Kiran Unni, industrial program manager for Frost & Sullivan's Test and Measurement Group. "With serial data capabilities that exceed those of all other high-end oscilloscopes, the new DSA70000 provides outstanding performance for first-generation high-speed serial standards applications. Engineers working with serial data standards will find the DSA70000 to be the ideal instrument for their work."
