The driving current of the IO port of the microcontroller is limited. A dedicated driver chip can provide a larger driving current or a higher driving voltage. In addition, the driver chip can sometimes decompose a PWM signal into two complementary signals, or two signals in the same direction but with a little time difference, to drive different MOS at the same time, such as full-bridge drive.
