What to do with unused I/O pins? [Copy link]

One issue that can cause higher than expected current consumption is turning on inputs. To prevent turning on inputs, use one of the following solutions for unused I/O pins: Switch unused I/Os to output mode Connect unused inputs to VCC or VSS Connect unused inputs to VCC or VSS through resistors TIP: It is good design practice to connect unused pins Test/Vpp to VSS (GND). If pin Test/Vpp is routed to the JTAG connector for debugging purposes, an external pull-down resistor will improve EMI/EMC performance.
