How to open a window in Altium Designer?[Copy link]
When doing PCB layout, I often hear people talking about windowing. What is windowing? What is the use of windowing? How to open a window? Today, let's take a look at PCB windowing. The wires on the PCB are all covered with oil to prevent short circuits and damage to the device. The so-called windowing is to remove the paint layer on the wires, leaving the wires bare for tinning.
As shown in the figure above, it is a windowed one. PCB windowing is not uncommon. The most common one may be the memory stick. Students who have disassembled a computer know that the memory stick has a gold finger on one side, as shown in the figure below:
The gold finger here is the windowing, plug and play. Another common function of window opening is to increase the thickness of copper foil by tinning in the later stage to facilitate excessive current. This is more common in power boards and motor control boards. So how to achieve PCB window opening? Take Altium Designer as an example. If you want to open a window on the Top Layer, you only need to place a Line that is the same as the wire on the Top Solder layer. Similarly, if you open a window on the Bottom Layer, you only need to place a Line on the Bottom Layer.
