TI has introduced the industry's lowest distortion 5V single-supply operational amplifier, the THS4304, designed for use where high speed, low distortion and low noise are required. The THS4304 enables wireless infrastructure, medical imaging and automatic test equipment to have higher resolution and accuracy, and is well suited for high-speed signal conditioning such as driving high-resolution, high-speed analog-to-digital converters like the ADS5500 series. The THS4304 is the first 1-gain stable operational amplifier produced using TI's BiCOM-III complementary bipolar silicon germanium (SiGe) process.
Using a single 5V supply, the THS4304 broadband operational amplifier has the best performance in its class, even comparable to operational amplifiers operating on dual supplies. Distortion performance is particularly good, with second harmonic distortion of -85dBc and third harmonic distortion of -100dBc when outputting 2Vp-p at 10MHz and 100 ohm load. The THS4304 has a 1-gain bandwidth of 3GHz, a slew rate of 830V/us, an input noise of 2.4bV/rtHz, and consumes only 18mA of quiescent current at 5V supply. The device is voltage negative feedback, providing designers with various benefits such as balanced input, low offset voltage, low offset current and low offset drift, as well as high common-mode and power supply rejection ratios.
The THS4304's low noise and distortion, along with its low supply voltage, maximizes signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and glitch-free dynamic range (SFDR). These factors enable designers to achieve wide dynamic range in their systems, resulting in more sensitive wireless systems, better diagnostic capabilities in medical ultrasound equipment, and higher resolution in test equipment.
The high-performance analog processing of the THS4304 is matched with high-performance DSPs such as the TMS320C6000 DSP platform, which operates at 1GHz and is the fastest DSP in the industry.
The THS4304 is available in 8-lead MSOP, 8-lead SOIC and 5-lead SOT-23 packages. It is available in volume quantities now.
