China creates nano-scale generator [Copy link]

This newspaper (Intern Zhao Zhiguo) Can you imagine how small the world's smallest generator is? It is so small that it can convert mechanical energy into electricity within the nanoscale range and provide electricity for the glucose sensor implanted under the skin. Recently, this nano-scale generator was successfully developed by Professor Wang Zhonglin, a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and overseas director of the China National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, and his doctoral student Song Jinhui. This research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Overseas Young Scholars Cooperation Research Fund.

Wang Zhonglin believes that when a person walks, the body generates 67 watts of energy, the movement of fingers generates 0.1 watts of energy, and breathing generates 1 watt of energy. If part of this energy can be converted, it can drive a micro device. According to the prototype concept displayed, 17% to 30% of the energy can be converted. Therefore, Wang Zhonglin cleverly used the characteristics of oxide nanowires that are easy to be bent, causing compression and stretching inside and outside the nanowires respectively, so as to ultimately generate current. Although the current generated by each nanowire is very weak, Wang Zhonglin said: "When multiple nanowires output at the same time, it is possible to generate very high energy, enough to drive tiny medical implants."

Experts predict that nanogenerators will have broad application prospects in biomedicine, military, wireless communications, and wireless sensors. This invention can integrate nanodevices to realize a true nanosystem; it can collect mechanical energy, vibration energy, and fluid energy, and convert these energies into electrical energy to provide to nanodevices; the electrical energy generated by nanogenerators is enough to enable nanodevices or nanorobots to achieve energy self-sufficiency.
