Ramtron launches 8051 MCU with embedded FRAM[Copy link]
Ramtron International has released the VRS51L3074, the world's first 8051 MCU embedded with non-volatile FRAM memory. Ramtron has added FRAM to its high-speed and flexible Versa 8051 series to enable the design of high-speed and high-reliability non-volatile data storage and processing systems, which can only be provided by enhanced microcontrollers embedded with FRAM.
The VRS51L3074 combines 8KB FRAM memory with a high-performance system-on-chip. Its core is a single-cycle 8051 core with a speed of up to 40MIPS, a 64KB Flash program space with both ISP and IAP programming functions, 4KB SRAM, JTAG programming/debugging interface, digital signal processing (DSP) unit and powerful digital peripherals. The 3.3v operating voltage and industrial temperature range make the VRS51L3074 an ideal choice for embedded data acquisition solutions, which can be widely used in fields ranging from sensor detection and measurement to industrial control, instrumentation and medical equipment.
VRS51L3074 Features
? 8K x 8 FRAM: 8KB of true non-volatile random access memory (no battery/extra-large capacitor required to store data) is mapped to the VRS51L3074's XRAM memory addressing space, taking advantage of its fast read/write speeds and unlimited read/write life. ? 40MHz, single-cycle 8051 processor: This is one of the fastest 8-bit processors on the market, with an advanced core that delivers up to 40 MIPS throughput and is instruction-compatible with standard 8051s. This facilitates program porting. ? MULT/ACCU/DIV unit with 32-bit barrel shifter: This hardware computation unit significantly outperforms 8-bit processors when performing DSP operations (FIR filtering, sensor output linearization, multi-byte arithmetic operations, etc.). It performs 16-bit signed multiplication and 32-bit addition in one cycle (40 MHz), and 16-bit signed division in 5 cycles (40 MHz). The barrel shifter implements logic/algorithm conversion operations. ? Precision 40MHz internal oscillator: VRS51L3074 integrates an internal oscillator with an accuracy of up to 2%. Since no external oscillator is required, the system design is simplified. ? JTAG interface: User-friendly interface Easy-to-use JTAG debugging programming interface. Supports inexpensive online programming and online debugging emulators.
VRS51L3074 includes a series of flexibly configurable hardware digital peripherals, which greatly reduces the processor's computing load on the basis of improved integration.
? Dual UART with baud rate generator: This universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter has a maximum operating speed of 1.25 Mbps. Each UART has an independent baud rate generator with 16-bit resolution and 4-bit baud rate fine-tuning function. ? Enhanced SPI: Universal serial peripheral interface, the communication speed can reach 20Mbps, and the transmission data length can be selected from 1 bit to 32 bits. ? PWC: Two pulse width counting modules provide high-performance timer functions, which can easily measure the pulse width. ? PWM: The VRS51L3074 contains eight pulse width modulators with up to 16 bits of adjustable resolution. Each PWM has its own independent timer and can be used as a general-purpose timer.
Other peripherals include an I2C interface, three 16-bit system timers with three capture inputs, a watchdog timer, and 49 interrupt sources. The VRS51L3074 is available in a QFP-64 package.
The VRS51L3074 is currently sampling and is priced below $5 in volume.
