The PCD1400 buck regulator uses a low EMI architecture and is designed to minimize EMI/EMC emissions and provide high efficiency at frequencies up to 3MHz. Its monolithic structure is assembled in a 3mm x 4mm QFN package, integrating the power switch and all necessary circuitry, resulting in a solution with a very small PCB area. The ultra-low quiescent current of 4A (when the output is in full regulation) enables applications that require extremely high efficiency under very small load current conditions. Excellent transient response is maintained at any load (from zero current to full current), and the output voltage ripple is less than 10mVP-P.

The PCD1400 achieves high VIN to low VOUT conversion at high frequency with a fast minimum top switch on-time of 35ns. The device is safe in overload conditions, even with a saturated inductor. Basic functions are built into the device and are easy to use: The open-drain PG pin signals when the output is in regulation. The SYNC/MODE pin selects between low-power mode operation, spread-spectrum mode, synchronization to an external clock, and pulse skipping or forced continuous mode. Soft-start and tracking functions are available through the TR/SS pin. The exact enable threshold can be set using the EN pin, while a resistor at the RT pin sets the switching frequency.
