In modern RF communication systems, signal integrity is of paramount importance. To meet system requirements, amplifiers, mixers, and modulators must have low noise figures and low distortion components. Additionally, as system designers strive to cram more and more data into the available bandwidth, low phase noise signal sources become equally important.
To meet this need for low phase noise signal sources, Linear Technology developed the LTC®6945 and LTC6946 phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizers. Both devices offer a low phase noise PLL core that not only has a low in-band noise floor, but also has very low 1/f corner frequency and very low spurs. The LTC6945 contains the low-noise PLL core and provides input for an external VCO. The LTC6946 is a fully integrated frequency synthesizer that integrates a PLL core with an industry-leading low phase noise VCO. In addition, the PLLWizard design tool simplifies the design of the synthesizer, accurately simulates its performance, and gets the system up and running quickly.
The LTC6945 and LTC6946 frequency synthesizers, paired with the PLLWizard design tool, will enable system designers to quickly and easily meet their signal generation requirements.
