Infineon Technologies has introduced a new touch controller, the automotive-grade PSoC Multi-Touch GEN8XL (IAAT818X), to meet the growing demand for advanced infotainment systems in vehicles. This innovative product is designed to support the automotive industry's transition to organic light-emitting diodes (a new generation of display technology OLED) and micro OLED displays, supporting displays up to 24 inches, and can support larger screen sizes up to 55 inches through a multi-chip architecture. The controller is designed to enhance the human-machine interface (HMI) experience and provide high performance and frame rates for a variety of touch interfaces (including touchscreens, touchpads and sliders).
The automotive-grade PSoC Multi-Touch GEN8XL complies with strict automotive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards, including chip-level emissions, conducted emissions, and radiated emissions, ensuring a safe and interference-free user experience. The product has passed AEC-Q100 certification and meets Auto-SPICE Level 3 and ASIL-B standards, emphasizing its reliability and safety in automotive applications. The controller is versatile and can operate reliably even in the presence of water droplets, condensation, and sweat, and can even operate normally when the user wears gloves up to 4 mm thick.
To support developers and manufacturers, Infineon provides a comprehensive support package for the automotive grade PSoC multi-touch GEN8XL. This support package contains application firmware, sensor and flexible printed circuit (FPC) design guidance, and a touch tuning host simulator to facilitate seamless integration and production preparation. The controller will be available in two package options, 128-pin and 100-pin thin quad flat package (TQFP) to meet different design needs.
The new touch controller is expected to go into production in the fourth quarter of 2025, and samples are now available for testing and development. This move marks a major step forward for Infineon in the field of in-vehicle infotainment, and is expected to meet the evolving needs of manufacturers and end users for a seamless and interactive in-car experience.
