What is HUD? Head Up Display (HUD) is a device that uses the principle of optical reflection to project important driving data onto the front windshield, making it easier for drivers to see without having to lower their heads, which is safer. HUD was previously used mostly on aircraft and fighter jets, but is now also used in some high-end cars to reduce the frequency of drivers looking down at the instrument panel and the probability of accidents. The HUD head-up display equipped in the car is powered by the on-board battery. In order to prevent the transient voltage generated by the dumped load from affecting the back-end devices, circuit protection devices are required to protect the circuit.
For the load dump protection of HUD head-up display of automotive electronic products, the protection scheme designed by DOWOSEMI is shown below:
The automotive HUD head-up display is powered by a 12V vehicle battery. During the startup and battery switching process, a high transient voltage will be generated, so a TVS diode is needed to protect the power bus.
