The automotive electric oil pump developed by Nidec Group is indispensable in hybrid drive, all-electric drive and idle start-stop functions, which play a decisive role in energy conservation and emission reduction of automobiles.
Taking the oil crisis that broke out in the Middle East in the 1970s as an opportunity, since the beginning of the 21st century, the trend of energy conservation and emission reduction in the global automobile market has become more and more obvious. Countries around the world have promulgated automobile energy conservation and emission reduction standards in response to different stages of the situation. In order to cope with the strict restriction standards, major automobile manufacturers have proposed new ideas for the design concept and mechanical structure of automobiles. In order to avoid using gasoline engines as much as possible and reduce the idling time of the engine as much as possible, the current solution is to adopt a full electric drive method driven by batteries and motors, or a hybrid drive method driven by engines and motors, and an idle start-stop function that automatically shuts down the vehicle when parking. However, these solutions all face the same problem, that is, the previous mechanical oil pump can no longer meet the new technical requirements. As a result, a new generation of products that replace mechanical oil pumps - electric oil pumps were born.
Solutions such as hybrid drive, all-electric drive, and idle start-stop function adopted to reduce automobile fuel consumption all face the same problem, that is, the previous mechanical oil pump can no longer meet the new technical requirements. This technical issue can only be solved by switching to an electric oil pump.
In 2013, Nidec Tosok launched an electric oil pump specifically for hybrid vehicles. The product features high voltage, high oil pressure, and large flow (100V・1MPa・10L/min) oil supply even when the car engine is turned off. Compared with similar products in the industry, the power of this electric oil pump has increased by 25%, making it the most powerful electric oil pump product currently available. At the same time, this product not only uses a highly efficient brushless DC motor, but also equips the transformer with self-developed control software, successfully achieving rapid motor start-up without sensors. After significantly improving the bearing structure of the internal gear pump inside the product, not only the torque loss of the pump is effectively reduced, but also the vibration and noise when the gears rotate are reduced.
The high-efficiency brushless DC motor, self-developed transformer control software and low-noise internal gear pump are integrated to create a high-quality, high-performance electric oil pump.
From idling start-stop to coasting start-stop that stops the engine during deceleration, and cruise stop that stops the engine during inertial driving after acceleration, the entire automotive industry is taking action to expand the engine's stopping area and pursue more effective fuel saving. In addition, there is a trend to use electric oil pumps for clutch engagement, cooling, and lubrication. In addition, the number of cases where large vehicles with hybrid systems are equipped with electric oil pumps has increased, and the demand for larger electric oil pumps has gradually increased. The strengthening of fuel restrictions is becoming a driving force for further expansion of the electric oil pump market. In the future, including the replacement of mechanical oil pumps, it is also planned to expand the product lineup of electric oil pumps from small to large, including those dedicated to CVT, DCT, EV main motor cooling, etc.
