In this era where people have two mobile electronic devices per capita, fast charging has become a basic requirement for people. New energy vehicles with excellent performance and comfortable experience are naturally popular among people, and in-vehicle USB PD fast charging is increasingly accepted and promoted by car manufacturers. Today, we will introduce to you the in-vehicle fast charging solution of Richtek's cost-saving product RTQ78860.
RTQ7860-QT is a USB Type-C Power Delivery (USBC PD) and PWM buck-boost controller with highly integrated functions and flexibility for USB PD provider applications. The IC has an embedded ARM CortexTM-MO MCU that handles various functions of communication protocol, intelligent control of PWM converter, firmware-based protection and customized functions. The IC has hardware-based protection functions such as inductor peak current limiting, VBUS overvoltage protection (VBUS OVP), VIN undervoltage protection (VIN UVP), VIN overvoltage protection (VIN OVP), VO undervoltage protection (VO UVP) and VCONN current limiting protection, so the protection has faster response speed and can still work even when the MCU is not active. RTQ7860 can provide an excellent USB PD solution for USB PD provider applications with only a few external components and simple PCB layout.
In addition, RTQ7860 is the Cost Down version of the best-selling product RTQ7882, which reduces the 11 GPIO ports of RTQ7882 to 4. Except for not supporting the UFCS protocol, the rest of the real functions are the same as RTQ7882. In terms of price, it is 20% cheaper than RTQ7882. At present, some of our customers have used RTQ7860 to send samples to the car factory for installation and testing, and we also have specialized technicians to customize FW (firmware) for customers. In short, this product has a very high cost performance, and customers who need to reduce costs are recommended to use RTQ7860 as a solution for in-vehicle PD fast charging.

►Core technology advantages
① Programmable output voltage and current. RTQ7860 supports dynamic output voltage and current adjustment, and can maintain stable output under both high-power and low-power charging conditions.
② Integrated LDO mode, which adopts a highly integrated design with a multi-stage voltage stabilizer to achieve the best efficiency and volatility over the entire output voltage range.
③ Programmable protection function, RTQ7860 integrates multiple protection circuits, including power supply overvoltage protection, power supply undervoltage protection, input overcurrent protection, output overcurrent protection and overheating protection, making the chip more reliable. At the same time, the chip also supports external programming, so that various protection functions can be adapted to a variety of vehicle systems and reduce the pressure on downstream circuits.
④ Suitable for harsh environments such as high power supply and vibration, RTQ7860 has environmental protection functions such as high impedance input, low ESR power-off and reverse power protection, so that the chip can work perfectly in harsh environments such as high power supply and vibration.
►Solution Specifications
① Wide voltage input range: 4.5V to 30V
② Wide voltage output range: 3.3V to 21V
③ Maximum power support 100W
