Leveraging the advantages of brushless DC motors, a lightweight and attractive motor for cordless vacuum cleaners is provided.
Lightweight motors lead the vibrant cordless vacuum cleaner market
In the home vacuum cleaner market, demand for cordless vacuum cleaners with built-in batteries has been growing rapidly since the second half of 2010. Space-saving and on-the-go use are the highlights that consumers have been looking forward to, and the activities of exchanging canister vacuum cleaners for this new vacuum cleaner are also very popular.
Nidec provides high-efficiency brushless DC motors for handheld vacuum cleaners and stick vacuum cleaners. Among the components of cordless vacuum cleaners, the motor is second only to the battery in weight. The small and lightweight brushless DC motors produced by Nidec not only make the vacuum cleaner easier to use, but also leave room for better design, giving the product a huge advantage.
Compared with conventional brushed motors, brushless DC motors are not only thinner, but also have the advantage of low energy consumption because they can output high power. Nidec has developed a motor specifically for cordless vacuum cleaners based on the experience accumulated so far in the development and manufacture of brushless DC motors.
Changed from the traditional outer rotor motor to the inner rotor motor.
The speed has more than doubled, but the weight has been reduced by 40%.
Since cordless vacuum cleaners have a small volume that can accommodate parts, the fan that generates wind is required to be miniaturized. In order to make a small fan have enough attraction, it has to rotate at high speed. In 2016, Nidec developed an ultra-high-speed rotating motor for handheld vacuum cleaners that rotates at about 80,000 rpm. Currently, the brushed motor used in general vacuum cleaners rotates at about 30,000 rpm, which is more than twice the speed. This ultra-high-speed rotating motor uses a very powerful magnet, a neodymium sintered magnet. While increasing the number of holes and slots inside the motor, the weight was successfully reduced by about 40%.
In 2019, we reviewed the design and released the second-generation product that achieves stability and more miniaturization. In 2021, we also began to supply the third-generation product, which further reduces the weight by switching to a resin casing. As of 2021, the company has brought together three product lineups: the most powerful "V65" (rated power: 250w), the standard stick vacuum cleaner dedicated motor "V55" (rated power: 150w), and the lighter "V45" (rated power: 100w) to respond to the diversified product strategies of various vacuum cleaner manufacturers.
