The power battery is called the "heart" of the car in the industry. It not only affects important indicators such as vehicle performance, safety, and endurance, but is also one of the core components behind the reliability, stability, and durability of a car. Power battery safety performance testing includes: overcharging, over-discharging, short circuit, extrusion, simulated collision, temperature, vibration, fire, sealing, extrusion, etc. The purpose of these tests is to improve the safety and reliability of the car on the one hand, and to extend its service life on the other hand. Battery safety testing equipment involved includes battery high and low temperature explosion-proof, drop test bench, puncture test machine, extrusion test machine, combustion test machine, short circuit test machine, immersion equipment, etc.
The source of new energy vehicle safety is the battery cell. The battery cell part of battery safety requires a lot of tests to ensure safety, such as over-discharge, short circuit, puncture, overcharge, high temperature, extrusion, and combustion. The battery cell combustion tester is one of the safety tests. It is suitable for battery flame resistance testing and is made according to UL2054, GB31241 and other test standards.
Then the test method:
1. Test steps GB31241-2014 "Safety requirements for lithium-ion batteries and battery packs for portable electronic products"
test requirements:
After fully charging the battery according to the specified test method, place the battery on the wire mesh of the test fixture. The test fixture is shown in Appendix E.2. If the battery slips during the test, a single metal wire can be used to fix the battery sample on the wire mesh; if this does not happen, the battery cannot be tied. Heat the battery with a flame and stop heating when the following three situations occur:
a) The battery explodes;
b) The battery is completely burned;
c) The battery is heated for 30 minutes, but the battery does not catch fire or explode.
Acceptance criteria:
After the test, the components of the battery (except for dust-like products) or the battery as a whole shall not penetrate the aluminum mesh.
2. UL 1642 "Lithium Battery Standard"
test requirements:
The experimental battery is placed on a flat table with a hole in the middle with a diameter of 4 inches and covered with a cover. The cover is made of a wire mesh with 20 holes per foot or a steel wire of 0.017 inches (0.43mm). A wire mesh screen of 8 sides, 2 feet wide (610 mm) and 1 foot high (305 mm), is placed around the sample. The metal mesh is composed of 0.010 inch (0.25 mm) diameter wires at 16-18 wires per inch. The sample is placed on the metal mesh, covering the hole in the center of the table, and then heated until it explodes or is destroyed. The safety valve is oriented parallel to the asbestos cloth.
Acceptance criteria:
No part of the exploding battery penetrates the screen, and no part or all of the battery protrudes from the screen.
