Capacitors are one of the main basic components in electronic devices. There are many types of capacitors, including safety capacitors, film capacitors, ceramic capacitors, supercapacitors, etc. They are widely used in electronic devices such as televisions, radios, and mobile phones. They play the role of energy storage and information transmission. They have stable performance, high reliability, and can work for a long time. However, capacitors can fail due to certain factors, such as ceramic capacitors. There are three types of ceramic capacitor failure modes: thermal shock failure; distortion and cracking failure; and original material failure.

1. Ceramic capacitor thermal failure

During the production of ceramic capacitors, the raw materials used to make ceramic capacitors are different, and their thermal expansion coefficients and thermal conductivity are also different. When the temperature is too high, it is easy to be thermally shocked and cracked, resulting in failure of the ceramic capacitor. Generally, it is easy to be thermally shocked and cracked near the interface between the exposed terminal and the ceramic terminal, where the machine tension is generated.

2. Ceramic capacitor distortion and cracking failure

Ceramic capacitors are picked up and placed with the help of tools. During the process, the pressure of the centering claws is concentrated in one place, resulting in greater pressure. Cracks are prone to appear on the surface of the ceramic capacitor. The cracks will spread to the other side along the direction of strong pressure, causing the ceramic capacitor to fail.

3. Failure of Ceramic Capacitor Raw Materials

1) Failure between electrodes and cracking of bonding lines are mainly caused by high voids in ceramics or voids between the dielectric layer and the opposing electrode, which causes the dielectric layer between the electrodes to crack, thus becoming a potential leakage crisis.

2) The nature of the combustion cracks is perpendicular to the electrode and usually originates from the electrode edge or terminal. If the cracks are shown to be vertical, they should be caused by combustion.

Therefore, if you want the ceramic capacitors to be used for a longer time, you must be careful during use. When purchasing ceramic capacitors, you must choose manufacturers with excellent quality, quality assurance and after-sales guarantee. This can also ensure that the ceramic capacitors can work for a long time.
