In the past 20 years, Loongson's main products have been the Loongson 1/2/3 series CPU processors. In the past two years, the importance of GPU has also increased. Loongson has begun to integrate self-developed GPUs, and now the official has confirmed that it will launch GPGPU chips that support graphics cards and computing acceleration next year.

Loongson mentioned that the company's GPGPU (general-purpose computing GPU) has completed the design of relevant IP and is in the process of verification and optimization. The first SOC chip integrating self-developed GPGPU core is scheduled to be taped out in the first quarter of 2024.

On this basis, we will develop a GPGPU chip that combines the functions of a graphics card and a computing acceleration card, which is scheduled to be taped out in the second half of 2024.

Judging from Loongson's statement, the first chip to be released in the first half of next year will be a SoC chip integrating self-developed GPGPU. The GPGPU in the second half of the year will have two functions. Computing acceleration is needless to say, and the other graphics card function means that Loongson GPU will also be able to play games. Of course, it is hard to say how powerful it is.

As early as January 2020, Loongson established six R&D teams, including the GPU team.

In December 2021, Loongson's IPO was successfully listed, raising 3.5 billion yuan, which included advanced process CPUs and high-performance GPU chips and system research and development.

In July 2022, the bridge chip Loongson 7A2000, which is compatible with the Loongson processor, was released. Not only does its high-speed I/O interface reach the mainstream market level, it also integrates the self-developed GPU core for the first time.

This GPU integrates Loongson's self-developed unified rendering architecture GPU module, with a core frequency of 400-500MHz and an API graphics interface that supports OpenGL 2.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0.

The video memory is paired with DDR4, with a frequency of 2.0-2.4GHz and a maximum capacity of 16GB. The GPU module can also be paired with independent video memory to form an independent graphics solution.

Supports dual-screen display, typical resolution 1080p60Hz, and up to 2K30Hz.

In terms of performance, glmark2 can exceed 300FPS, and glxgears can exceed 1800FPS, which can easily meet desktop office needs.
