BYD’s new energy vehicle sales hit a new high, with an increase of 152.8%!

BYD, the leading domestic new energy vehicle manufacturer, announced its sales data for May. Its total sales in May reached 114,183 units, up 152.8% year-on-year and 8.3% month-on-month, setting a new record. The cumulative sales from January to May were 509,444 units, up 164.6% year-on-year, and the cumulative sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 2 million units.

It should be noted that BYD has completely stopped production and sales of fuel vehicles in March this year, which means that the sales volume is all new energy vehicles (including hybrid and pure electric). Compared with the sales volume of new energy vehicles in the same period last year, the sales volume in May increased by 260.41% year-on-year. Even if we only look at the sales volume of pure electric vehicles, BYD's sales volume in May reached 53,349 units, firmly ranking first in the sales volume of domestic new energy vehicles.

According to the latest data released by domestic automakers, a total of four new car companies achieved monthly deliveries of more than 10,000 vehicles in May. Among them, Ideal Auto delivered 11,496 vehicles in May, a month-on-month increase of 175.9%; Nezha Auto followed closely, delivering 11,009 vehicles in May, a month-on-month increase of 24.9%; Xiaopeng Auto delivered 10,125 vehicles in May, a month-on-month increase of 12.5%; Leapmotor delivered 10,069 vehicles in May; and NIO delivered 7,024 vehicles in May, a year-on-year increase of 11.8%.

The fumes of new energy vehicles have suddenly made the lithium ore resources for battery manufacturing tense. Even BYD, which manufactures its own batteries, has prepared for more battery manufacturing resources. Recently, there was news that BYD "found 6 lithium mines in Africa, and has reached an acquisition intention." According to reports, in these 6 lithium mines, the amount of ore with a lithium oxide grade of 2.5% has reached more than 25 million tons. If all of these 25 million tons of ore are mined, it can meet the power battery demand of 27.78 million 60-degree pure electric vehicles. In fact, the sharp increase in BYD's sales has forced people to associate these 6 lithium mines with BYD. BYD's sales in May have exceeded 110,000 vehicles, and it will undoubtedly become the largest domestic new energy vehicle company. With such a large sales volume, the demand for lithium ore can be imagined.

In the past two months, after BYD launched three new models, the new Han family, Tengzhong D9 and Haibao, at a fast pace, it has launched a new model-the 2022 Tang EV. On June 1, BYD's 2022 Tang EV was officially launched. The new car has a total of three models, equipped with BYD blade batteries. Among them, the two-wheel drive version of CLTC has a maximum comprehensive working condition range of 730km, and 600KM premium and 635KM four-wheel drive flagship models are available. The new car is priced at 279,800 yuan to 339,800 yuan after comprehensive subsidies. In the BYD Dynasty series, Tang is its earliest flagship model and the representative model of BYD SUV. Data shows that BYD Tang family has accumulated sales of more than 330,000 units, ranking at the top of the domestic medium and large SUV rankings. In April this year, BYD Tang series sales exceeded 10,000 units again, reaching 10,107 units, a year-on-year increase of 570.2%. However, with BYD's DM-i hybrid technology installed on the Tang model last year, and the Tang EV not having been upgraded for a long time, the Tang EV gradually gave way to the Tang DM-i in sales, with the Tang EV sales volume in April being only 1,289 units. The 2022 Tang EV may improve the sales structure of the Tang after it is launched, and is expected to improve the overall market performance of the Tang family. According to data previously provided by BYD officials, the 2022 Tang EV received 8,505 pre-sale orders in 24 hours.

In terms of segmented models, BYD Han is definitely the most outstanding model, with sales of 23,934 in May, of which the Han DM series increased by 359%. Since its launch, the cumulative sales of the car have exceeded 230,000 units. It can be said to be the most successful model among the domestically produced mid-to-large flagship sedans.
