NDI is an interface transmission protocol. NDI is a standard protocol for ultra-low latency, lossless transmission, and interactive control over IP networks. The biggest difference of the NDI protocol is that NDI video transmission can get rid of traditional HDMI and SDI cables. What is NDI called? NDI is the abbreviation of Network Device Interface, which is an IP network device interface protocol.

NDI transmission protocol technical principle: NDI is an open protocol that enables video-compatible products to share videos through a local area network. The NDI protocol is explained in detail that in a single production environment, any NDI device can be connected to all other devices, and each signal source can become a target location. NDI will be able to flexibly obtain any signal input and output. It is a completely innovative IP working mode.


The NDI protocol can transmit and receive multiple broadcast-quality signals in real time through an IP network, and has the characteristics of low latency, accurate frame video, mutual recognition and communication of data streams, etc. Many foreign TV stations have converted traditional SDI/HDMI video transmission to NDI network transmission. NDI is a new network application field that simplifies the signal transmission of the system.


NDI makes system design, integration, application, maintenance, and function expansion simpler and more flexible in terms of signal, calling, and multiplexing.

Principle and method of NDI transmission protocol technology

The current multi-camera mobile live broadcast generally uses multiple mobile phones to shoot and upload to the video cloud, and then import it into the live broadcast software for switching. This not only consumes too much public network bandwidth, but also due to the different network delays of each camera, there will be a time difference of several seconds or even tens of seconds, resulting in the sound and picture of the source being out of sync with each other. If you use a camera to shoot and then switch it through the director's desk in front and then transmit it back, you need to use an SDI video cable to connect, and the range of activities will be greatly limited.


With the NDI solution, these problems can be easily solved. All you need to do is set up a wireless router and several encoders in front. The camera can directly convert the output SDI or HDMI into NDI signals through the encoder device, transmit it through the network cable or Wifi, and it can also be received by the director's computer in the local area network. In this way, even without relying on expensive image transmission equipment, the camera can be moved freely and ensure high-definition, low-latency, and non-stuttering video transmission.


NDI can directly hot-shoe the camera, encode the SDI or HDMI video source into an NDI protocol stream, and transmit the video through a wired network or a wireless WIFI network, reducing wiring costs and deployment time, and meeting the needs of studio and on-site multi-camera video production.
