Shortly after the elderly activating their social security cards sparked public outrage, another piece of news about an elderly man who was refused to pay his medical insurance bill in cash in the rain became a hot search on Weibo. With the advent of the digital and intelligent era, the technology that facilitates the lives of young people has become a digital dilemma for the elderly.

Relevant data show that by 2025, the number of elderly people aged 60 and above in my country is expected to reach 300 million, accounting for one-fifth of the total population; by 2033, it will exceed 400 million, accounting for about a quarter of the total population; and by around 2050, it will reach 487 million, accounting for about one-third of the total population. Both the number of elderly people and the proportion of the total population will reach their peak.

The special physiological, psychological and behavioral characteristics of the silver-haired population will inevitably lead to corresponding consumption concepts, consumption habits and preferences. However, many manufacturers still target young people as the main consumer group when developing products, and these highly integrated intelligent products are not "elderly-friendly". In other words, the elderly have a low acceptance of existing smart home appliances.

In developed countries, the concept that "senior household appliances should be different from general household appliances" has been proposed long ago. These countries believe that senior household appliances should be safe, healthy, intelligent and economical, and have launched a series of products on this basis. For example, the number of buttons on the remote control or knobs on the body is reduced as much as possible, and they are supplemented by eye-catching and easy-to-understand instructions and clear color markings.

According to the China Aging Industry Development Report, from 2014 to 2050, the consumption potential of China's elderly population will increase from 4 trillion to 106 trillion, and the proportion of GDP will increase from about 8% to 33%. For enterprises, in the context of slowing overall market growth and serious product homogeneity, it is a good idea to start from the market segmentation and grasp the new blue ocean of "silver economy", which can not only serve the elderly group, but also find a suitable development path, thus achieving a win-win situation.
