Recently, CATL and Changan Automobile signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Ningde. The two parties will deepen cooperation in the fields of intelligent connected electric vehicles and smart energy ecology.
Changan Automobile may have a more urgent need for this cooperation. As early as July this year, Changan Automobile stated that CATL occupies a leading position in the upstream battery field of new energy vehicles.
Changan Automobile invested in CATL by acquiring the fund shares of Zhenjiang Demao Hairun Equity Investment Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership) in 2017. This transaction further deepened the cooperative relationship between the two parties.
Changan Automobile, which has been experiencing sluggish growth in fuel vehicles, is stepping up its efforts in the field of new energy. In April 2018, Changan Automobile proposed the slogan of "third entrepreneurship", taking "intelligence" and "new energy" as the core of Changan Automobile's products, and promoting the "Beidou Tianshu" intelligence strategy and the "Shangri-La" new energy strategy.
At the end of 2019, Changan New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. completed its A round of financing, successfully introduced four strategies, and firmly promoted the "Shangri-La Plan". In 2020, Changan Automobile also launched the Benben E-Star model, with a cumulative production of 6,813 vehicles.
For CATL, cooperation with Changan can further expand the demand for power batteries.
