Due to the existence of the "craftsman spirit", Japan has always had relatively strict standards in industrial production and commodity import and export. Many of the same products produced in China have different yield rates on different production lines for Japan and China.
According to the Nikkei, Lenovo Group will introduce the quality management method used by the Yonezawa office in Yamagata Prefecture when producing personal computers to its production bases outside Japan. The company has recently started to introduce the method to its Chinese factories that produce products for Japan. The company aims to improve the quality of personal computers by adopting the "Yonezawa-style" product inspection method that checks for minor scratches, etc. In the future, it will also discuss extending the method to products for other markets outside Japan.
Lenovo first introduced it in six Chinese factories in Shenzhen and Shanghai, and has begun using it for laptops and desktop computers exported to Japan. The six factories have partially introduced dozens of product testing items and methods independently owned by Yonezawa Office, which will check "whether the seal is crooked" and "whether there are fingerprints on the screen".
Previously, Lenovo's production base in China would not consider minor scratches or damage to a corner of the packaging box as unqualified when supplying goods. However, at the request of Japanese customers, the Chinese factory will set stricter standards in addition to the previous inspections such as confirming whether the machine can be turned on. In addition, it will also send technicians to the Yonezawa office to share experience.
Lenovo acquired the personal computer business of Japan's NEC in 2011. The Yonezawa office was once NEC's personal computer factory and currently produces computers for domestic legal entities in Japan. Lenovo will discuss the introduction of Yonezawa standards in 40 factories around the world and products for other markets outside Japan. Lenovo's advantage in the past was to improve cost competitiveness through mass production, but now how to improve quality and brand influence has become a top priority.
