According to an announcement released by ASML, the world's leading lithography machine manufacturer, due to the global outbreak of the new coronavirus, first-quarter revenue was far below expectations. First-quarter revenue is expected to be between 2.4 billion and 2.5 billion euros (2.67 billion to 2.78 billion U.S. dollars), lower than the original expected revenue of 3.1 billion to 3.3 billion euros. In addition, ASML will suspend its second-quarter stock repurchase plan.

ASML also said that due to some delivery issues, some of the revenue that could not be confirmed in the first quarter will be transferred to the second and third quarters of this year, and no stock repurchases will be carried out in the second quarter of 2020. Previously, the company repurchased approximately 507 million euros of shares in the first quarter.

An ASML spokesperson said, “The current coronavirus pandemic affects all of us. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of our employees and their families as much as we can, and our secondary goal is to ensure the continuity of our business and the businesses of our customers, suppliers and partners so that we can all continue to serve our end markets. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will announce a detailed first quarter 2020 earnings report on April 15.”
