1 Overview
ISD5116 is an extended-function single-chip voice recording and playback chip in the ISD5000 series launched by ISD. It can not only record and play two-way voice for up to 16 minutes, but also store 4MB of digital information. It uses 2 I2C interface pins and can be controlled using a high-speed serial communication port, making it very convenient to apply. Its digital information can be read and written repeatedly for more than 10,000 times, and voice can be recorded and played repeatedly for more than 100,000 times. It can store information without power consumption, and the stored information can be stored for 100 years. The power supply range is 2.7~3.3V, and the operating temperature range of its industrial-grade products is -40~85°C.
2 Pin arrangement and functions
ISD5116 is available in 28-pin TSOP and SOIC packages. The pin arrangement of its 28-pin SOIC package is shown in Figure 1. The function description of each pin is listed in Table 1.
3 application characteristics
3.1 Recording length
Depending on the sampling frequency set by the user, the recording length of ISD5116 can range from 8 minutes to 16 minutes. The specific relationship between sampling frequency and recording length is listed in Table 2.
3.2 Storage unit
An outstanding new feature of ISD5116 is that the storage space can be specified when writing to determine whether it is used to store digital information or analog signals.
3.3 Control interface
The control of ISD5116 can be realized through an I2C interface, which consists of two synchronous serial communication port pins. The transmission of control instructions and the writing and reading of addresses and data are all performed through the synchronous serial communication port. The RAC and INT pins are function expansion pins of the I2C interface. The reading and writing of digital information are realized through the operation of the internal register through the serial port.
Under the control of the microcontroller, ISD5116 can be used to realize the combined playback of multiple speech segments to achieve functions such as automatic time reporting and temperature reporting. In addition, it can also combine the words or phrases stored by the user in a specific order into a paragraph for playback, and its control is also realized through the I2C interface.

4 Typical applications
ISD5116 can be easily used in telephones with recording functions, and can easily and conveniently implement functions such as two-way voice recording, voice playback, automatic answering and phone number storage with the cooperation of a microcontroller. At the same time, ISD5116 can also be widely used in portable communication devices (such as cellular phones and digital cordless phones) to achieve voice recording and information storage.
