Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU), an industry leader in innovative memory and storage solutions, today announced new UFS 2.1 managed NAND products for automotive applications. The portfolio addresses the need for fast system boot and higher bandwidth in in-vehicle infotainment systems and instrument clusters, thereby enhancing the driving experience. Micron® UFS2.1-compatible managed NAND storage solutions use a cost-effective 64-layer 3D TLC NAND architecture to provide ultra-fast boot and automotive-grade reliability.
Next-generation infotainment systems include multiple high-resolution displays and artificial intelligence-enabled human-machine interfaces, such as voice, gesture and image recognition. Such feature-rich, advanced systems require high-density, high-throughput and low-latency storage capabilities. Micron's UFS 2.1 products offer three times the sequential read performance of the company's eMMC products, instant-on capabilities and improved responsiveness for an immersive cockpit experience in connected cars.
“Automotive partners require high-value memory solutions that deliver better performance at an affordable price, in addition to the quality, reliability and longevity required to operate in rigorous automotive environments,” said Aravind Ramamoorthy, senior director of the NAND product line in Micron’s Embedded Business Unit. “The introduction of Micron’s UFS 2.1 portfolio based on automotive-grade 64-layer 3D TLC NAND demonstrates our continued commitment to address the needs of emerging automotive applications with cost-effective solutions.”
Key Features of Micron’s Automotive-Grade UFS Portfolio
Superior performance: UFS reads at 940Mb/s and writes at 650MB/s, three times and two times faster than the eMMC interface, respectively1
Operating temperature: -40°C to 105°C and -40°C to 95°C 2
Quality and reliability: AEC-Q100, IATF 16949 automotive compliant
Cost-effective: Based on industry-leading 64-layer TLC NAND and CMOS array technology
Availability
Micron’s UFS managed NAND portfolio is currently sampling to automotive customers, with production volumes expected in the third quarter of 2019. Micron’s automotive-grade UFS NAND solutions are available in capacities ranging from 32GB to 256GB.
As a leading storage partner with more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, Micron provides advanced automotive memory solutions with strict implementation of quality, reliability and compliance requirements.
