In the field of intelligent driving, Denso, as a traditional automotive supplier, is still looking for solutions from the perspective of components: iterating around the safety function package "GSP (Global Safety Package)".
Denso has now launched its third-generation product, "GSP3," which features freedom of movement, reduced driving burden, reduced parking burden and collision avoidance.
The GSP3 system released by Denso in 2021 provides comprehensive parking obstacle avoidance, intersection collision avoidance, remote parking and other functions, effectively reducing the pressure of parking.
In addition, GSP3 reduces the burden of driving through functions such as urban speed assistance and provides the support the driver needs.
The next generation of GPS is under development and will further expand its capabilities to include hands-free and eyes-free autonomous driving, automatic valet parking, blind spot and long-range obstacle avoidance, etc.
The market needs higher performance millimeter wave radars, and the requirements for radar systems are also increasing. Autonomous driving systems need to accurately identify targets such as pedestrians, vehicles, driving spaces, and road signs under different locations, weather, and time conditions. Denso recognizes that millimeter wave radar is a sensor that can detect stably in harsh environments, but the market demand for higher performance functions is increasing, especially the demand for higher resolution.
To achieve higher resolution, DENSO is developing the next generation of imaging radar.
● Denso is trying to meet requirements such as high resolution and miniaturization through the following methods:
◎ Using ultra-wideband (UWB) to improve the resolution in the distance direction;
◎ Use multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology to achieve virtual multi-channel;
◎ The angle measurement algorithm MUSIC is used to overcome the problem of computational complexity and improve the accuracy of angle estimation.
The angle measurement algorithm MUSIC is a method that calculates the angle through the phase information of the received signal, and its accuracy is higher than that of traditional methods.

Denso's GSP3 millimeter-wave radar system aims to expand the detection range, improve speed resolution, and achieve compactness and lightness. The imaging radar is expected to achieve a resolution of 0.5 degrees in the vertical and horizontal directions. The vertical detection of this technology can also provide useful information, such as detecting the gap between the vehicle and the viaduct.
Denso also proposed a point cloud processing technology called "Occupancy Grid Map", which uses the high-resolution point cloud information of imaging radar to draw a spatial grid map for road free space detection in applications such as autonomous driving.
As functions and performance increase, signal processing capability becomes a challenge. However, with the continuous development of semiconductor technology, the problem of signal processing capability is expected to be solved.
