[ December 8 , 2023 , Munich , Germany ] Infineon Technologies AG recently launched the new TRAVEO™ T2G-C series of automotive microcontrollers (MCUs) equipped with a new graphics engine. The engine uses a new intelligent rendering technology to bring outstanding performance to automotive graphics applications. This new MCU occupies a small space, simplifies OEM integration and reduces BOM (bill of materials) costs. It is suitable for advanced smart mobile instrument clusters and head-up display systems for automobiles, motorcycles, off-road mobile transportation vehicles, as well as industrial and medical applications that focus on quality and safety.

New TRAVEO™ T2G-C Series Automotive Microcontrollers

“The TRAVEO T2G-C family of microcontrollers with dedicated graphics accelerators enables instrument clusters, infotainment and cockpit systems with microprocessor performance at the cost of an MCU,” said Ralf Koedel, Vice President of Smart Mobility, Microcontroller Product Line at Infineon Technologies. “The MCUs use an innovative line cache processing technology based on Infineon’s patents, which requires only 10% of the cache size of traditional frame buffer solutions compared to similar semiconductor devices on the market, thereby reducing power consumption, memory requirements and BOM costs.”

The device is paired with the processor in the smart cockpit to achieve extremely fast boot time. The graphics engine built into the MCU can reduce the memory required for graphics processing by 3 to 5 times, thereby reducing power consumption and cost. Equipped with an optimized 2.5D graphics engine, the MCU can support a full virtual instrument panel with a resolution of up to 1920 x 1080. In addition, engineering samples of the new T2G-C series MCU have been launched. It has an LPDDR4 interface that can display complex 3D scenes, giving designers greater freedom in designing modern human-machine interfaces (HMIs).

The TRAVEO T2G-C series of microcontrollers are equipped with two Arm Cortex-M7 cores with frequencies up to 320 MHz and have best-in-class ASIL-B/SIL-2 safety performance. This series of MCUs has up to 6MB of flash memory and 4MB of internal video memory or 1GB of LPPDR4 video memory, and is equipped with EVITA advanced hardware security module (HSM), which provides advanced security through hardware encryption accelerators and enhanced hardware protection through dedicated ARM Cortex-M0+. Therefore, this cost-effective MCU fully takes into account the latest functional safety and information security requirements, and provides a wide range of packaging options from 500-pin BGA (through 216-pin TEQFP) to 144-pin LQFP. CAN-FD, LIN, Gigabit Ethernet and CXPI are provided as embedded peripherals. JPEG decoder, video input and output and two serial memory interfaces (SPI or xSPI) make the entire product portfolio more complete.

Infineon provides customers with a reliable partner network that supports key hardware functions of the microcontroller through partner HMI tools. Combined with certified HMI tools, the TRAVEO T2G graphics controller helps developers achieve the best application performance.

Availability

The TRAVEO T2G CYT2CL series (160 MHz Arm Cortex-M4F core, 4 MB embedded Flash), TRAVEO T2G CYT3DL series (240 MHz Arm Cortex-M7F core, 4 MB embedded Flash and 2 MB video memory) and TRAVEO T2G CYT4DN series (320 MHz dual Arm Cortex-M7F cores, 6 MB embedded Flash and 4MB video memory) are available and can be ordered now. Engineering samples of the TRAVEO T2G CYT4EN (320 MHz dual Arm Cortex-M7F cores, 6 MB embedded Flash, LPDDR4 and eMMC interfaces) are also available.

Regarding similar problems, you can make a board and try it yourself. I believe it should not be difficult to simulate I2C communication with IO ports. The implementation method is to connect a pull-up resistor to the port, set the output register to zero, and then change the direction register to realize the conversi
