STMicroelectronics (ST) announced on November 30 that it has launched a new automotive inertial measurement unit (IMU) called ASM330LHHXG1. The product uses in-sensor AI and enhanced low-power operation to operate stably in a temperature range of 125°C, maintaining reliability even in harsh environments.
This new automotive IMU contains a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope. Both sensors operate at less than 800μA, which helps reduce the system’s power budget, allowing it to be used in always-aware applications. . AI inside the sensor offloads the host processor and enables low-latency, energy-efficient event detection and classification by using built-in machine learning cores (MLCs) and finite state machines (FSMs).
Another advantage of the ASM330LHHXG1 smart sensor is its extended temperature range. This allows for flexible deployment in a variety of harsh locations, including near engine components, areas exposed to direct sunlight, or where onboard power consumption may increase temperatures above standard operating levels. This flexibility and stability make the ASM330LHHXG1 an ideal choice for the automotive industry, maintaining excellent performance whether in harsh environments or at high temperatures.
