The lab facilitates in-house testing to help develop next-generation innovations for automotive and power conversion systems
November 21, 2023 - ON Semiconductor announced the opening of an application test laboratory in Piestany, Slovakia, focusing on advancing the iteration and innovation of battery/plug-in hybrid/electric vehicle (xEV) and energy infrastructure (EI) power conversion system solutions . This advanced system application laboratory provides dedicated equipment and works with automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and EI suppliers to develop and test next-generation silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor solutions.
Modern semiconductor devices are essential for efficient power conversion in xEV powertrain and charging and renewable energy applications. The lab will play a central role in ensuring that future power products are developed to deliver highly differentiated, value-added solutions tailored to customer specific requirements.
The facility includes two high-voltage power supply labs focused on system and device-level development and evaluation of SiC/Si main drive inverters and ACDC/DCDC power converters . It also includes laser welding facilities, mechanical clean rooms and workshops to further accelerate rapid prototyping and test capabilities for next-generation system solutions.

Simulate the harsh conditions that inverters face during operation and test the performance of water-cooled components at temperatures as low as -50°C and as high as 220°C

Extensive range of industry-proven software for field programming of FPGAs and ARM microcontrollers, as well as validation testing, data analysis and 3D modeling
