According to foreign media reports, Japanese automaker Nissan announced that it will convert the charging interface of its electric vehicles from the Combined Charging System (CSS) to Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) in the U.S. and Canadian markets. This shift will take effect in 2025 and will affect the Nissan Ariya and Nissan's future electric models.
Before Nissan's electric vehicles officially transition to the NACS interface, the company will provide existing Ariya owners with a NACS charging adapter in 2024 that also supports the CSS1 charging interface.
Nissan said: "Starting in 2024, Nissan will provide NACS charging adapters for Ariya models currently equipped with CSS1 DC fast charging interface. This device will enable customers to connect their vehicles to Tesla NACS charging piles ."

Nissan's move will allow Ariya owners to use Tesla's Supercharging network. Ford, General Motors, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar and Mercedes-Benz have all reached similar agreements with Tesla. It is worth noting that Nissan is the first Japanese car brand to announce support for the NACS standard in North America.
Jérémie Papin, Chairman of Nissan Americas Group, said: “Supporting the NACS standard underscores Nissan’s commitment to further electrification and making electric vehicles more accessible as we pursue our long-term vision of Ambition 2030. We are pleased to support Nissan More fast charging points are available for electric vehicle owners, giving them greater confidence and convenience when planning long-distance trips.”
In late 2025, Nissan's plant in Canton, Mississippi, will begin production of two new all-electric models.
