• ABB Formula E racing charging equipment with power up to 160kW
• Two cars can be charged at the same time before the race, reducing the floor space and improving sustainability
Recently, ABB announced the charging technology that will be used in the ninth season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. At that time, ABB will become the official charging supplier of this series of events.
ABB worked with FIA and FE engineers to develop a compact, reliable and safe racing charging solution. The solution will charge the new third-generation racing car (gen3) before and during the race. ABB Formula E charging equipment is rugged, customizable and ergonomically designed for easy transport and installation around the world.
Each charging device has a power of up to 160kW and can charge two racing cars at the same time with a power of 80kW each before the race. Enables racing teams to benefit from the charging unit’s “dual-car charging” capability, significantly reducing the charging equipment’s footprint. This design significantly reduces transportation emissions because it eliminates the need for a separate charging unit for each race car.
As a leader in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, ABB's charging equipment uses advanced charging technology. The technology has been proven in road car charging applications and is suitable for the demanding motorsport environment. ABB's charging equipment has compatibility and consistency, no matter where in the world the charging equipment is used, it can be adapted to the local power system.
Frank Mühlon, CEO of ABB Electric Mobility, said: “We are delighted to bring our innovative charging solutions to the world’s most prestigious electric mobility stage – the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship – thereby continuing our drive to position the event as a more reliable vehicle for electric mobility. Continuous testing platform for new technologies. Providing charging support for the third generation racing car (gen3) will allow us to gain valuable testing information for charging in a fast-paced and highly competitive environment. ABB charging equipment is constantly being improved for use by customers and consumers.”
Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E, said: “Technological progress and sustainable innovation are the cornerstones of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Our partnership with ABB is based on a shared commitment to advancing electric mobility and we are delighted that ABB will Our third generation racing car (gen3) provides advanced charging equipment. ABB's mobile fast charging equipment sets the industry standard and will become a key charging infrastructure for FE events. We look forward to demonstrating ABB's leading technology under the strict racing standards. rechargeable products, proving that high performance and sustainability are not mutually exclusive and can coexist.”
