Automotive USB Type-A/Type-C charging controller fully integrated solution

The USB port in the car's central control generally needs to transmit data and also support charging of mobile devices. MPS  Company has a chip with many advantages for this application field - MPQ4228-C.

MPQ4228-C supports BC1.2 CDP mode and USB Type-C 5V @ 3A DFP mode. It is packaged in QFN-22 (4mmx4mm) and is compact.

MPQ4228-C has comprehensive protection, including current limit with hiccup protection mode (supports MFI OCP), output overvoltage protection (OVP), USB_OUT/DP/DM/CC1/CC2 short battery protection and over-temperature shutdown protection.

★The efficiency of the MPQ4228 DC-DC converter is quite high, with a peak efficiency of up to 94.4% and a full load temperature rise of only 31°C. The considerable high efficiency allows the chip to generate very little heat, which can reduce heat dissipation design and make the product more compact.

★Data transmission requires excellent signal integrity, and the eye diagram is a test to evaluate USB2.0 signal integrity. The MPQ4228-C has extremely excellent eye diagram performance. Under the condition that the HOST data passes through the MPQ4228-C internal DP/DM data switch, a 150cm cable can also have good eye diagram performance.

★With the continuous improvement of automobile electronics, the requirements for the electromagnetic compatibility performance of automobiles are getting higher and higher. Bad EMI will reduce the performance. For example, the radio will make a sizzling noise, which may even affect driving safety.

The MPQ4228-C spectrum extension function can pass the CISPR25 Class5 standard without adding a shield and common mode inductor.

★There is a certain distance from the car to the USB port. The line voltage drop in this distance will affect the charging voltage and charging speed of the terminal. Different models have different distances from the car to the USB port. For this reason, MPQ4228-C Defines line loss compensation that can be flexibly configured.
