On August 11, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced the latest progress of Xiaomi Automobile in his annual speech. He said that autonomous driving is the key to success of smart electric vehicles. Xiaomi's autonomous driving will adopt full-stack self-development, and Xiaomi's autonomous driving technology has entered the testing phase. The goal is to enter the first camp of the automotive autonomous driving industry in 2024. He also released a video of Xiaomi's autonomous driving test vehicle. In addition, Xiaomi's first full-size humanoid bionic robot "Tie Da" was also unveiled on the scene.
It has been 500 days since Xiaomi officially announced its entry into the electric vehicle industry. Lei Jun said that Xiaomi Auto is currently progressing smoothly and has exceeded expectations. He believes that the decisive battlefield for future smart cars is autonomous driving, and Xiaomi's autonomous driving will use a full stack of self-developed algorithms to fully develop autonomous driving technology.
In the test video, Xiaomi's autonomous driving system can automatically identify obstacles, automatically turn around in unprotected scenarios, actively change lanes to overtake, automatically enter ramps, automatically bypass parked vehicles, automatically bypass accident vehicles, automatically bypass roundabouts, give way to pedestrians at zebra crossings, summon vehicles with one click, autonomous valet parking, and automatic charging of robotic arms. However, this is not very outstanding among the current car companies.
According to Lei Jun, the first phase of Xiaomi's autonomous driving project has invested 3.3 billion yuan in research and development, and the dedicated team has exceeded 500 people. At present, 140 test vehicles are planned for the first phase and will be tested across the country one after another, with the goal of entering the first camp of the autonomous driving industry in 2024. In addition, Lei Jun also said frankly: "When the time is right, I will regularly introduce the progress of Xiaomi cars to you. I hope you will give me some patience, space and support."
Xiaomi's car manufacturing site is located in Beijing. The project will build Xiaomi's automotive headquarters base, sales headquarters, and R&D headquarters. It will also build a complete vehicle factory with an annual output of 300,000 vehicles in two phases. The production capacity of the first and second phases will be 150,000 vehicles each.
It is reported that when Lei Jun works in Xiaomi Technology Park, he spends about two-thirds of his time in the office building where Xiaomi Automobile is located, which shows how much he cares about it.
In addition to Xiaomi's car manufacturing, Xiaomi also unveiled its first full-size humanoid bionic robot "CyberOne", which has an internal nickname that makes people laugh - Tieda. Tieda is a new member of Xiaomi's robot Cyber family. He is 177 cm tall and weighs 52 kg. He is positioned as a full-size humanoid bionic robot.
