Zadar Labs, a leading developer of 4D mmWave imaging radar and radar vision and AI software, has launched zPRIME, its ultra-high-performance software-defined imaging radar (SDIR) platform for critical detection in autonomous driving applications.

zPRIME is the industry's first imaging radar to offer resolution down to 0.4 degrees in both azimuth and elevation. This ultra-high resolution represents a tipping point in radar performance, allowing for the separation of hundreds of static and dynamic objects in dense environments. When long-range detection is required, such as during high-speed highway driving, zPRIME can detect vehicles up to 800 meters away.

The mobile industry’s demand for high-resolution radar is growing exponentially, with the focus shifting from LiDAR to 4D imaging radar technology. Enabling this shift is Zadar’s zPRIME, the first mmWave radar that surpasses LiDAR performance in all-weather, low-cost and scalable deployments.

zPRIME is the highest performance product in Zadar’s SDIR family. Zadar Labs developed SDIR in conjunction with AI and ML processing techniques to advance the application space and capabilities of radar. Unlike the traditional “black box” approach to radar sensors, Zadar’s software-defined architecture supports the need for more flexible and dynamic interaction with the technology. The SDIR platform allows our customers to dynamically configure most radar parameters based on the needs of the environment or perception system.

In conjunction with the SDIR platform, Zadar developed the zVUE software, which includes an advanced data processing engine that unlocks capabilities such as target tracking and classification, radar-based localization and mapping, and sensor fusion.
