At the 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Conference held in September this year, Musk emphasized that "safety" is Tesla's top priority, and judging from the related technologies on display, Tesla seems to be moving towards this goal.
Tesla recently announced a new collision safety technology developed based on real collision scenario data. Officials said that this technology can determine the type of collision within 0.01 seconds of the collision and take corresponding safety precautions, greatly improving safety performance.
At the same time, Tesla released a new video of the "Tesla Crash Lab" to demonstrate the effect of this new technology. From the video, we can see that they used a huge pickup truck to collide with the Tesla Model Y, in order to judge through the dummy inside the car whether the Tesla Model Y equipped with the latest collision safety technology can provide adequate protection for the occupants inside the car.
Tesla engineers said that the safety protection systems built by some car companies are usually based on industry-standard collision tests, but the causes and phenomena of collisions in the real world are different each time. Tesla strives to restore real-world collision scenarios through data from millions of cars to design the safest vehicles.
It is understood that there are currently millions of Teslas on the road, which has generated a large amount of real data, including some involving car accidents. This collision safety technology is "honed" based on these data. The entire safety system can detect the type of collision within 0.01 seconds and allow the airbag to respond accordingly.
Summary: Although Tesla has been controversial in terms of safety in the domestic market, I believe that "safety" is still the primary standard and bottom line for every company when creating products, whether for traditional automakers or emerging automakers represented by Tesla. The latest collision safety technology results announced this time also reflect Tesla's efforts to improve vehicle safety. Of course, this technology has not yet been widely used, and whether the actual effect is as described by the official remains to be verified over time.
