Clarience Launches New Program A2Z for e-Mobility™ to Improve Electric Vehicle Range

According to foreign media reports, Clarience Technologies™ launched a new company program A2Z for e-Mobility™, which aims to develop more energy-efficient lighting solutions and increase the range of electric vehicles by reducing battery capacity loss. The A2Z for e-Mobility program can provide electric vehicle-optimized LED lighting solutions for Truck-Lite brand trucks, trailers and truck bodies. In the future, the company expects to improve its product line with other energy-saving solutions besides LED lighting.


“We want commercial fleets to be able to maximize the range of their electric vehicles,” said Paul Sniegocki, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Clarience Technologies. “The A2Z for e-Mobility program is a reflection of our efforts to apply modern technology to deliver more efficient solutions that extend vehicle range.”

Headquartered in Michigan, Clarience Technologies is a leading supplier of electronic advanced telematics, LED lighting and transportation safety components and the parent company of several commercial transportation services, including Truck-Lite®, ECCO®, Road Ready® Telematics and DAVCO® Filtration Systems.


A2Z can increase driving range by reducing capacity loss by more than 50%


The first electric commercial trucks are expected to have an average range of about 250-300 miles per charge next year, but the extent to which external factors affect range remains uncertain. Many factors can affect a vehicle’s range, including temperature, cargo weight or the power loss required by the vehicle’s body or trailer.


The A2Z for e-Mobility program aims to reduce parasitic loads that draw power from electric vehicle batteries. The challenge facing Clarience Technologies engineers was to reduce the current loss in electrical lighting systems. A2Z stands for "Amps to Zero," meaning as close to zero loss as possible.


The research team needs to ensure that LEDs are more energy-efficient without compromising their performance, including lumen output and design quality. Through advanced power management strategies, engineers have developed improved lighting electronics that reduce energy waste, while optical engineers are looking for ways to improve photometric performance through reflector design and lens optics. Finally, the A2Z for e-Mobility program uses the latest design to reduce current ampere losses by more than 50%.


Although the A2Z for e-Mobility program has achieved results, Clarience Technologies believes that the technology is still in its infancy and its engineers will continue to explore the possibility of further improving efficiency.


Clarience Technologies is looking for ways to optimize the overall trailer, body, and truck load, including how to best optimize the components with other electrical components and connecting harnesses. Its engineers are also using their interconnect expertise to develop "smart" lighting solutions designed to better integrate with trailer, body or truck OEMs. Through integration with OEM connectivity, its smart solutions can achieve two-way communication and more automated control. This means that the truck or trailer will be able to automatically adjust the current of the LED lights to protect the battery in specific situations.
